Pam Fryman Tapped to Direct “How I Met Your Father” Pilot, Hilary Duff Stars in the Spinoff

Fryman: ICM Partners

Pam Fryman is being recruited back into the “How I Met Your Mother” universe. After helming all but 12 episodes of the nine-season sitcom, she’s been tapped to direct and produce the pilot episode of its spinoff, Hulu’s “How I Met Your Father.” A press release announced the news.

Written by Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker, “How I Met Your Father” is set in the near future and sees Sophie (Hilary Duff) telling her son the story of how she met his father: “a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options,” the show’s synopsis details.

“My only complaint about my time on ‘HIMYM’ was that it came to an end,” said Fryman. She emphasized how excited she is “to be stepping back into this world [she loves] so much.”

Berger and Aptaker added, “We’d heard so many wonderful things about Pam Fryman over the years without ever crossing paths that we started to wonder if she was real. Turns out, not only is she real, she’s just as tremendously talented and kind as everyone says. We feel so lucky to have Pam onboard and can’t wait to bring ‘How I Met Your Father’ to life together.”

Fryman received two Emmy nods for her work on “How I Met Your Mother.” “Call Your Mother” and “One Day at a Time” are among her most recent credits. Her expansive résumé also includes episodes of “Frasier,” “Friends,” and “Cybill.”

Duff recently wrapped TV Land’s “Younger,” a comedy set in the publishing industry. The Sutton Foster-starrer ran for seven seasons. In addition to leading “How I Met Your Father,” Duff will also serve as a producer on the series.
