Patricia Arquette Will Direct & Star in “Love Canal” Showtime Limited Series from Colette Burson

Arquette in "Boyhood"

Patricia Arquette has yet another series in the works. With two small screen projects already in development, the Oscar and Emmy winner has added a third. She’ll star in, direct, and exec produce “Love Canal,” a Showtime limited series. Variety broke the news.

Based on Will Battersby’s upcoming documentary “The Canal” and Keith O’Brien’s upcoming book “Paradise Falls,” “Love Canal” follows “a group of blue collar women who came together in the late 1970s to fight for environmental justice for their community. The women became activists when they realized that 20,000 tons of deadly chemicals were buried beneath their neighborhood in Niagara Falls, New York. With little formal education or training, they took on the chemical industry and the US government and inspired the first major environmental rights legislation in the US,” the source details.

“Hung” co-creator Colette Burson is penning the series and will serve as showrunner. She’s also among its exec producers.

“Love Canal” was originally conceived of as a feature, and Arquette was set to make her feature directorial debut on the project.

Arquette won an Oscar in 2015 for “Boyhood.” A two-time Emmy winner, she took home statuettes for “The Act” and “Medium.” Her upcoming slate includes two Apple TV+ series, “High Desert,” a comedy about a former addict who becomes a PI, and “Severance,” a workplace thriller.
