Patricia Heaton-Starrer “Carol’s Second Act” Secures CBS Series Commitment

Heaton in "The Middle"

Patricia Heaton is eyeing a return to CBS. The former “Everybody Loves Raymond” star’s latest project has scored a series commitment from the network, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.

Penned by “Trophy Wife” creators Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins, “Carol’s Second Act” is a multi-camera comedy that sees Heaton playing Carol Chambers, a retired teacher and mother of two who decides to become a doctor. She, Halpern, and Haskins are among the project’s exec producers.

“Carol’s Second Act” hasn’t received a formal series order, but there’s a “massive penalty attached” if the show doesn’t make it to air.

Heaton won two Emmys for her role as Debra on “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which ran on CBS from 1996-2005. More recently, she starred in “The Middle,” an ABC sitcom about a middle class family living in Indiana. The show concluded its nine-season run in May of this year.
