It’s been over a decade since Patty Jenkins directed Charlize Theron to her Oscar for Monster. We all know that Theron has worked on numerous films since then, but Jenkins, who wrote and directed the film — which was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival — has had a much tougher road getting a second film made. Not that she’s alone. The second film for women has become an incredibly daunting task.
She almost became the first woman to make a male superhero film with Thor 2, but that did not pan out. She has spent the last decade directing TV and working her ass off to get a feature gig.
Deadline reports that she has signed on to direct the Blacklist script Sweetheart written by Jack Stanley. The script is about a “heroine trying to escape the murder business, but finds herself right back in the mix after a high school reunion and a one night stand.”
Casting is already underway with financing to follow.
