Paula Patton to Star in ABC’s Arms-Dealing Drama ‘Runner’

Paula Patton is ditching the occasional supporting part in film for a leading role on TV.

The “Precious” and “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol” actress has signed on to “Runner,” a drama that finds Patton’s character thrown into the dangerous and highly masculine world of international arms deals. Lauren Marks (Patton) had believed her husband was dead, only to discover that he is not only alive and well, but also with a new woman who has stolen her identity. Lauren is then thrust into her former husband’s criminal underworld, which is populated by Mexican cartels and unsavory characters from her past.

“Runner” is based on the Turkish series “Son.” Patton will next be seen in the 2016’s “Warcraft,” a fantasy-action movie based on the video game.
