A new short documentary about women trailblazers in STEM is on the way. Set to stream on-demand in January, “In Her Element” focuses on “female pioneers using technology to advance their fields while inspiring the next generation of women to join them in breaking through barriers,” according to Variety. The project is directed by Kate Kunath (“Anthony Bourdain: Explore Parts Unknown”) and hails from Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine company and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
Filmed using XR (“extended reality”) technology, “In Her Element” sees Phenomenal founder Meena Harris leading discussions with rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, music engineer Laura Escudé, and professional racing team principal Susie Wolff. The subjects chat about their work and goals, with the aim of “encourag[ing] others to follow their dreams, even when they lie outside the norm, and show[ing] what’s possible when a woman believes in herself.”
“Hosting conversations with these inspiring women was truly an honor. Their impact in their chosen industries is immeasurable, and the footprint they will leave for future generations is astounding,” Harris stressed. “Young women everywhere will feel empowered to reach for the stars after watching the film — no dream is ever out of reach.”
Named in honor of Maya Angelou’s poem “Phenomenal Woman,” Harris’ Phenomenal is a women-driven brand and creative agency that centers underrepresented communities. Harris is also a lawyer, producer, and author of two bestselling children’s books.
