So far it’s been quite the year for this dope queen. 2019’s already seen comedian Phoebe Robinson wrap up her HBO special series “2 Dope Queens,” appear in Taraji P. Henson-starrer “What Men Want,” and ink an overall deal with ABC studios. Variety now reports that Comedy Central will place Robinson behind the interview desk.
The network has ordered 10 half-hour episodes featuring one-one-one interviews between Robinson and weekly guests. Robinson and her new production company, Tiny Reparations, will exec produce alongside Embassy Row’s Michael Davies. Comedy Central’s Samantha Schles will also oversee production.
“This show will hit that sweet spot between educational and charmingly ignorant,” Robinson jokingly explained. “Who doesn’t love that? Well, all older black people who struggled and marched for my rights. But besides that, everyone else does!”
Robinson co-created and co-hosted the “2 Dope Queens” podcast with “The Daily Show’s” Jessica Williams in 2016. HBO aired the podcast as one-hour specials for two four-episode seasons. Robinson continues to host her own podcast, “Sooo Many White Guys.” Her ABC deal will see her develop, write, and act for the network across multiple platforms.
Robinson’s screen credits includes Amazon’s “I Love Dick” and Netflix rom-com “Ibiza.” She is the author of essay collections “You Can’t Touch My Hair & Other Things I Still Have To Explain” and “Everything’s Trash, But It’s Okay,” and is currently on her first solo comedy tour.
Tour dates and tickets for Robinson’s tour, “Sorry, Harriet Tubman,” are available on her website.
