Women in Comedy Festival (WICF) is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a stacked lineup. Set to take place May 2-5, the 2019 edition of the fest features headliners Phoebe Robinson (HBO’s “2 Dope Queens”), Nikki Glaser (Comedy Central’s “Not Safe with Nikki Glaser”), improv team Wild Horses, and Helen Hong (NPR’s “Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!”).
WICF will also include shows by Liza Treyger (Netflix’s “The Degenerates”), Kelly MacFarland (Comedy Central), and Jenny Zigrino (“Conan”), among others.
Events will be held at various venues in the Greater Boston Area. Besides comedy sets, WICF also offers industry panels, workshops, and live podcast recordings. Confirmed industry execs include Lelly Edwards (Senior Vice President of Talent Development, HBO), Jandiz Estrada Cardoso (Senior Director of Talent Development Programming, NBC), and Jeanne Mau (Senior Vice President, Entertainment Diversity & Inclusion, CBS Entertainment).
Sponsored by HBO, WICF was launched to “help close the gender gap in comedy by showcasing women and their allies across all comedic platforms and celebrate comedy from different perspectives,” a press release details.
“You’re just going to start seeing comics who you never knew existed before, because before they didn’t feel comfortable performing, or weren’t given a shot,” Robinson has said of #MeToo’s impact on comedy. “It’s going to create overall a more interesting tapestry of voices that can exist and succeed in the comedy world.”
Head over to WICF’s website for a complete lineup, schedule, and ticket info. All of the events are open to people of all genders.
