Maybe everything’s not trash, after all. According to Deadline, comedian, writer, and podcaster Phoebe Robinson has inked a multi-year overall deal with ABC Studios. Under the agreement, the “2 Dope Queens” co-creator and co-host will develop, pen, and act in ABC projects across multiple platforms.
“Ever since ABC Studios put a ring on it, I’ve been tastefully twerking with joy all over my neighborhood,” Robinson joked. “In all seriousness, I couldn’t be happier teaming with a partner who knows my worth, gets my comedic vision, and is game to be a part of what I believe will be a beautiful relationship as well as a home for not only my ideas, but many future collaborations I intend on having with other dope queens and kings,” she said.
Robinson created comedy podcast “2 Dope Queens” with co-host Jessica Williams. Last year it re-launched as a series of specials for HBO. Robinson also hosts podcast “Sooo Many White Guys,” which spotlights women, people of color, the LGBTQ community, and other underrepresented voices — plus the occasional token white guy. Issa Rae and Reese Witherspoon are among its previous guests.
“We’ve wanted to be in business with Phoebe since the very first time we heard the ‘2 Dope Queens’ podcast,” said ABC Studios prez Patrick Moran. “Her humor, unique point of view, and her incredibly fresh, authentic talent are huge assets for us; we couldn’t be more thrilled that she’s joining our studio.”
Robinson’s more recent on-screen credits include “What Men Want,” “Ibiza,” and “Search Party.” She has written for “Portlandia” and served as a consultant on “Broad City.” The multi-hyphenate moderated for Michelle Obama’s “Becoming” book tour and has written two essay collections, “You Can’t Touch My Hair & Other Things I Still Have To Explain” and “Everything’s Trash, But It’s Okay.”
Currently, Robinson is on her first solo comedy tour, called “Sorry, Harriet Tubman.” Tour dates and ticket info are available on her website.
