Your new favorite show could be on the way. A number of promising-sounding projects have recently been ordered to pilot, including ones exec produced by “Selma” director Ava DuVernay and “Parks and Rec” alumna Amy Poehler.
Hailing from writers and exec producers Caitlin Parrish and Erica Weiss, “Red Line” depicts the aftermath of a white cop mistakenly shooting a black doctor. Ordered to pilot by CBS, the drama follows “three different families that all have connections with the case as the story is told from each perspective,” Variety reports. Also serving as exec producers are DuVernay and “Supergirl’s” Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.
DuVernay’s highly anticipated adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s “A Wrinkle in Time” hits theaters March 9.
An untitled half-hour comedy from Poehler, Aseem Batra (“Scrubs”), and Julie Anne Robinson (“The Good Place”) secured a pilot order from NBC. Inspired by Orli Auslander’s book “I Feel Bad: All Day. Every Day. About Everything,” the single-camera project depicts “one woman’s hilarious unfiltered take on the side effects of trying to have it all,” according to Deadline. Batra penned the pilot and Robinson will direct. As the source notes, she’s helmed “10 network half-hour and hourlong pilots, six of which have gone to series, including ‘The Middle,’ ‘The Catch,’ and ‘How to Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life).’”
Poehler is also teaming up with “Orange Is the New Black” star Natasha Lyonne and “Sleeping with Other People” writer-director Leslye Headland for an untitled Netflix series. The comedy is set in New York City and takes place during a party where Lyonne’s character is the guest of honor.
Blumhouse Television is developing a drama from “Punisher: War Zone” director Lexi Alexander and “Doctor Strange” helmer Scott Derrickson. Described by Variety as an “epic love story,” “You Bury Me” is set in Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. Alexander is writing the pilot and will EP alongside Derrickson.
Alexander’s recent credits include eps of “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Taken,” and “Supergirl.”
ABC has ordered a single-cam comedy from “Friends” and “New Adventures of Old Christine” collaborators Sherry Bilsing-Graham and Ellen Kreamer to pilot. Titled “Three Rivers,” the show centers on “Rebecca, who left her family’s Texas ranch years ago to work at an upscale hotel in New York. But after being promised ownership of the ranch by her smooth-talking cowboy dad Beau, she’s back and ready to utilize her big city tactics to turn their rustic ranch into a destination spot,” Variety summarizes. Bilsing-Graham and Kreamer penned the script and will EP. The pair won Emmys for their producing work on “Friends.”
