Production Underway on “A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow,” Katherine Fairfax Wright Directing

Maia Reficco, seen here in "Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin," will star

Production on “A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow” has commenced in Yorkshire, England. The adaptation of Laura Taylor Namey’s YA bestseller hails from director Katherine Fairfax Wright and screenwriters Khaila Amazan and Savion Einstein. Maia Reficco (“Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin”), Kit Connor (“Heartstopper”), and Kate del Castillo (“La Reina del Sur”) star in the Ace Entertainment romance. Deadline broke the news.

Published in 2019, “A Cuban Girl’s Guide” “follows the heartfelt story of Lila Reyes. After the loss of her grandmother, Lila leaves her life at Abuela’s Cuban bakery in Miami to spend the summer cooking at her aunt’s inn in Winchester,” the source hints. “It’s there that she falls in love with the quaint British countryside, fusion cooking, and a charming British tea shop clerk…ultimately using food as a way to bridge two cultures and heal her heart.”

Details on the lead actors’ roles have not been confirmed, but it seems likely Reficco will play Lila and Connor the tea shop clerk.

You can catch Reficco next in Netflix’s high school satire “Do Revenge,” from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. “Maya and the Three” and “Bad Boys for Life” are among del Castillo’s more recent credits.

“A Cuban Girl’s Guide” marks Wright’s narrative feature directorial debut. She previously helmed docs “Behind the Curtain: Todrick Hall” and “Call Me Kuchu.” Amazan co-wrote the upcoming music film “K-POPS!” and Einstein is working on an adaptation of Helen Hoang’s “The Kiss Quotient.”

Namey is also the author of “The Library of Lost Things” and “When We Were Them.”
