Though they have a long history of working together off-screen, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith haven’t appeared on-screen together since 1996’s “Set it Off,” but that may soon change.
According to Deadline, the two are in talks to star in “Girl Trip,” which focuses on “four friends who travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, where sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, with some drinking, romancing and even brawling thrown in for good measure.”
They would join Regina Hall (“Vacation,” “Think Like a Man”), who was previously announced as one of the four friends. The film was written by “Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver (“Barbershop: The Next Cut”). Universal has “Girl Trip” set for a July 21, 2017 release.
Latifah and Pinkett Smith co-produced 2008's “The Secret Life of Bees,” which starred Latifah. Latifah exec produced “Dear Mama,” a 2016 VH1 event that honored Pinkett Smith, so while they often produce each other’s projects, we haven’t seen them act together for 20 years.
