Queen Latifah is poised to kick some ass. The “Star” alumna is signed on to topline “The Equalizer,” which Deadline reports just scored a pilot production commitment from CBS.
Described as a “new take on the character played by Edward Woodward on the original series and by Denzel Washington in the movie franchise,” the potential series sees the Oscar winner playing a mysterious figure who uses her wide-ranging skills to help desperate souls with no one else to turn to.
The reimagining is being penned by “Take Two” creators Terri Miller and Andrew Marlowe, who also collaborated on “Castle.”
Latifah received an Oscar nomination for her role in “Chicago.” She won an Emmy for exec producing “Bessie,” an HBO biopic about blues singer Bessie Smith that she also starred in. “Flint” and “Girls Trip” are among her recent credits. Her upcoming projects include “Paper Chase,” Angela Tucker’s teen comedy about a college-hopeful who can’t afford tuition, and “King of the South,” a biopic about hip-hop mogul Master P.
Other women-centric projects in the pipeline at CBS include an untitled drama about amateur detectives and “Good Sam,” a medical drama about a surgeon.
