Hot on the heels of signing an overall deal with Warner Bros. TV, “Abbott Elementary” creator, star, and exec producer Quinta Brunson made a major splash at the sixth annual Black Reel TV Awards, which was held last night. She took home honors for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for her hit ABC comedy about public school educators. The multi-hyphenate, who made history as the first Black woman to receive three Emmy nods in the comedy categories in the same year, as also landed the award for Outstanding Guest Actress for “A Black Lady Sketch Show.”
Besides Brunson’s wins, “Abbott Elementary” also netted awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress (Janelle James) and Outstanding Supporting Actor (Tyler James Williams) in a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series (Matthew A. Cherry).
Other Black Reel TV Awards winners included Zendaya and Susan Kelechi Watson. The former was recognized as Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series (“Euphoria”) and the latter for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series (“This Is Us”).
