Quote of the Day: Robin Wright: “We Need a Female Che Guevara” to Fight Hollywood Sexism

“We need a revolution, we really do,” proclaimed Robin Wright in a new interview with the London Evening Standard.

“Thank
God gender equality is finally being talked about and making news,” the “House of Cards” actress continued, “but
we need a female Che Guevara.” Wright wasn’t only talking about sexism in her industry, though. “It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all, and equal rights for women in the United States of America,” she added.

As for Hollywood, Wright seems more disenchanted than ever with what’s on offer. Noting her long interest in directing — she recently helmed an episode of “House of Cards” — the actress said of her upcoming role in the thriller “Everest,” “If a great role comes along, that is exciting and has some substance, or
is far outside the box for me, I’ll definitely take it. But to play the
pained wife again? I’m done.”

Wright is well aware that being selective about her roles might garner a reputation for ingratitude, especially among actresses. “If you walk away from a role,
there is always going to be someone else who will take it, because they
are making a 16th of what you make. And they are like: ‘Hell, if you’re
turning that down, you are biting the hand that feeds.’”

“It is a man’s world,” she declared. “Most industries are a man’s world. But when you break it down… it’s women [who do the work]. But they don’t necessarily get the credit. I think we know how to do house-cleaning very well, in more ways than one.”
