Cue up “My Sharona”: Lelaina Pierce is returning to the screen. A “Reality Bites” series is in development at Peacock from the scribe of the original 1994 pic, Helen Childress.
Described as a “re-framing” of the hit coming-of-age Gen X film, the series “is centered on the driven, idealistic Lelaina … and her three best friends as they leave college and try ‘adulting’ in the 1990s; as the world around them is on the brink of a seismic shift, they struggle to hold onto who they are, and to each other,” per Deadline.
In the original “Reality Bites,” Lelaina, played by Winona Ryder, is a recent college grad and an aspiring documentary filmmaker. Ethan Hawke, Janeane Garofalo, Steve Zahn, and Ben Stiller round out the cast, with Stiller also taking on directing duties.
Childress’ small screen credits include “Good Girls” and “The Spanish Princess.”
