Fat Amy is embarking on a life-or-death mission. Rebel Wilson has optioned the rights to “Crowded,” an upcoming Image Comics book, with plans to develop and produce the project. The “Pitch Perfect” alumna also aims to star in the assassin pic. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.
Set in “a near future where the world’s economy is all job sharing and apps and where a crowdfunding platform that funds assassinations named Reapr is all the rage,” the story centers on a woman named Charlie. Her quiet, average life is turned upside down when finds herself a target on Reapr — and with a multimillion-dollar bounty on her head. “Desperate, the woman hires the only person she is able to afford: Vita, the lowest-rated bodyguard on the Dfend app. The two have to work together to take down the aspirational assassins and find out who wants Charlie dead before the campaign’s 30-day period concludes, or their lives are over,” the source summarizes.
The comic hits shelves August 15.
A writer hasn’t been tapped for the adaptation.
Wilson will produce via her Camp Sugar production banner. Oni Entertainment is also producing.
Camp Sugar is currently in post-production on its debut project, “The Hustle,” a “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” remake from MGM and Annapurna that sees Wilson teaming up with Anne Hathaway. Penned by Jac Schaeffer (“TiMER”), the con artist comedy is set to bow May 10, 2019.
Before that, Wilson can be seen in “Isn’t it Romantic,” in theaters February 14, 2019. The pic centers on a disenchanted woman who gets trapped inside a romantic comedy. She’s currently shooting Scarlett Johansson-starrer “JoJo Rabbit,” an anti-war satire set in WWII Germany.
