Two of Hollywood’s biggest A-listers, Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, are coming to HBO.
The Oscar winners will star in “Big Little Lies,” a limited series based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel of the same name. The project landed at HBO after the premium cable channel won a bidding war with Netflix.
We at Women and Hollywood are huge fans of Moriaty’s book and have been looking forward to seeing an adaptation of the murder mystery since word came out that Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman’s production companies banded together to bring the darkly comic tale to the big screen as vehicles for themselves with Moriarty in the producer’s chair.
Then came news that the project would no longer take the form of a movie, but a miniseries instead. This actually seems like a better medium to unravel the muti-perspective story. “Big Little Lies” focuses on three mothers of kindergarteners in the same class who become embroiled in a homicide investigation, exploring with humor and compassion issues of infidelity, divorce, domestic violence and school bullying. We definitely want as many hours to explore this world as possible.
An air date hasn’t yet been set, but given the caliber of the talent involved and the excellent source material, this is definitely a project to keep an eye out for.
