Eagle-eyed Reese Witherspoon has announced another page-to-screen adaptation of a novel yet to be published.
Witherspoon and her producing partner Bruna Papandrea will develop a female-driven Wall Street comedy based on Maureen Sherry Klinsky’s “Opening Belle,” about a woman balancing a high-powered career in finance with motherhood in 2007 (on the precipice of the financial crisis) and dealing with the fallout of that banking implosion. The novel borrows a few details from its author’s autobiography; Klinsky was a managing director at Bear Stearns.
Witherspoon is eyeing “Opening Belle” as a star vehicle for herself. She can currently be seen in theaters alongside Sofia Vergara in “Hot Pursuit.” The actress will next star as Tinker Bell in the live-action fairy tale “Tink,” as a disillusioned astronaut in the just-announced “Pale Blue Dot” and as a hyper-competitive mother in the HBO miniseries “Big Little Lies,” based on Liane Moriarty’s mystery bestseller.
“Opening Belle” will hit bookstores later this year.
