Reese Witherspoon is claiming one of Disney’s most iconic characters as her next big-screen role.
The Oscar-winning actress will play Tinker Bell in “Tink,” a live-action, revisionist take on the character a la “Maleficent.”
The script will be written by Victoria Strouse, who penned the “Finding Nemo” sequel “Finding Dory,” and Witherspoon and her Pacific Standard partner Bruna Papandrea will produce.
The project, currently in development, will compete with a rival live-action Tinker Bell project starring Melissa McCarthy as the fairy brat.
Witherspoon can currently be seen in theaters alongside Sofia Vergara in “Hot Pursuit.” She will star as a disillusioned astronaut in the just-announced “Pale Blue Dot” and as a hyper-competitive mother in the HBO miniseries “Big Little Lies,” based on Liane Moriarty’s mystery bestseller.
