Reese Witherspoon to Star in Adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s Wild

nullFox Searchlight just acquired the worldwide rights to Cheryl Strayed’s critically acclaimed and bestselling memoir Wild. Reese Witherspoon is set to star and produce.

The film is about Strayed who in her 20s felt she had lost everything. Her mother passed away, her family was all over the place and her marriage fell apart. At 26, she decided to hike 1,000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail — through the Mojave desert to Washington state — alone.

Witherspoon’s production company, Pacific Standard with Bruna Papandrea alongside River Road Entertainment’s Bill Pohlad will be producing. Filming is set to begin in the late fall. A director has not been chosen yet.  Wonder if they will pick a woman to direct?
