Reese Witherspoon will be dipping back into the icy waters of the thriller genre in “Cold,” a supernatural thriller.
Acquired by Lionsgate, the project was pitched by Witherspoon, her producing partner Bruna Papandrea and writer Bill Marsilii, who created the original story. Details are currently scarce; it is currently only being described as “a dark thriller with supernatural elements.”
Witherspoon is slated to star in the film. It would be the actress’s first role in a thriller since 2007’s “Rendition.”
This might also be the first original pitch that Witherspoon and Papandrea have sold to studios. The two women have recently been on a book-optioning tear, picking up the rights for “Gone Girl” and “Wild,” as well as the upcoming “Big Little Lies,” “Luckiest Girl Alive,” “Ashley’s War” and “All Is Not Forgotten.” The pair are currently also at work on a live-action Tinker Bell tale called “Tink” for Disney.
