For three years in a row, the Oscars didn’t have a host. In 2022, it will have three: Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes are set to share emcee duties at the 94th edition of the Academy Awards. Each will be hosting the ceremony for the first time. A press release announced the news.
“This year’s show is all about uniting movie lovers. It’s apropos that we’ve lined up three of the most dynamic, hilarious women with very different comedic styles,” said Will Packer, the show’s producer. “I know the fun Regina, Amy, and Wanda will be having will translate to our audience as well. Many surprises in store! Expect the unexpected!”
Hall, Schumer, and Sykes added, “We want people to get ready to have a good time. It’s been a while.”
“Nine Perfect Strangers,” “Support the Girls,” and “Girls Trip” are among Hall’s credits. She starred in two pics that premiered at Sundance this January: “Master,” Mariama Diallo’s horror story set on a college campus that is reckoning with its racist past, and Adamma Ebo’s comedic satire about the first lady of a Southern Baptist megachurch, “Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul.”
An Emmy and Peabody winner, Schumer’s best known work includes “Trainwreck,” which she wrote and starred in, and “Inside Amy Schumer,” her Comedy Central show. The stand-up comic’s other screen credits include “The Humans” and “I Feel Pretty.” She stars and exec produces “Life and Beth,” an upcoming Hulu comedy about a wine distributor who transforms her life.
Also an Emmy winner, Sykes can currently be seen in “The Upshaws,” a Netflix sitcom about a working-class Black family in Indiana that she created, exec produces, and writes. The stand-up’s last special, 2019’s “Wanda Sykes: Not Normal,” launched on Netflix. Her other credits include “The Other Two” and “Monster-in-Law.”
The Oscars will take place March 27. Jane Campion is making history as the first woman to be nominated for Best Director twice. She was previously recognized in this category for “The Piano,” and this year she’s being honored for “The Power of the Dog.”
