Regina Hall is taking a break from Wall Street to lead a megachurch. The “Black Monday” actress has been tapped to star in “Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul,” Adamma Ebo’s feature writing and directing debut. Hall is also set to produce the pic. Deadline broke the news.
Hailing from production company Pinky Promise, “Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul” tells the story of Trinity Childs (Hall), “the first lady of a prominent Southern Baptist megachurch, who attempts to help her pastor-husband, Lee-Curtis Childs (Sterling K. Brown), rebuild their congregation and reconcile their faith to make the biggest comeback that commodified religion has ever seen,” the source summarizes. Described as “a satirical look at megachurch culture and the often nebulous perspectives that are cultivated from being both entrenched in it, as well as finding yourself on the outside looking in,” the film will be shot in a “faux-documentary style.”
“Both Regina and Sterling are forces of nature, and the sense of play and sheer creative energy they bring to these roles will be incredible to see.” said Pinky Promise co-founder Jessamine Burgum. “We’re over the moon to partner with two of the most lovely and hardworking people in town. Honestly, it’s a dream come true.”
Hall stars as Dawn Darcy in “Black Monday,” a Showtime comedy about employees of a Wall Street trading firm set in the year leading up to the 1987 stock market crash. Season 3 is currently airing. Her production company, Rh Negative, has a first-look deal with Showtime. “Little,” “The Hate U Give,” and “Girls Trip” are among her film credits. Hall’s upcoming slate includes Mariama Diallo’s “Master,” an occult drama about two Black women at a predominantly white college in Massachusetts, and Hulu series “Nine Perfect Strangers,” an adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s novel about a mysterious wellness retreat.
