Renée Zellweger-Starrer “Judy” Nabbed by LD Entertainment and Roadside Attractions

"Judy": Pathe

LD Entertainment and Roadside Attractions are following the yellow brick road. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the companies have teamed up to acquire U.S. rights to “Judy,” Renée Zellweger’s Judy Garland biopic.

Based on “The Wizard of Oz” star’s final concerts in London in 1968, “Judy” follows Garland as she preps for the shows, dukes it out with management, and begins a courtship with Mickey Deans, who went on to become her fifth husband. The icon is “also fragile, and after spending 45 of her 47 years working, she is haunted by memories of a childhood lost to Hollywood and a desire to be back home with her kids.”

“Judy Garland remains one of the quintessential legends of stage and screen, and this chapter of her life is particularly riveting,” said Roadside Attractions’ Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff and LD Entertainment’s Mickey Liddell.

Garland received Oscar nods for her roles in “A Star is Born” and “Judgment at Nuremberg” and took home the Juvenile Award at the 1940 Academy Awards. Zellweger won an Oscar for “Cold Mountain” and was also nominated for “Chicago” and “Bridget Jones’s Diary.”

When asked about aging in Hollywood, Zellweger has said, “I’ve never seen the maturation of a woman as a negative thing.” She continued, “I’ve never seen a woman stepping into her more powerful self as a negative.”
