Rita Moreno to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at 2014 SAG Awards

nullRita Moreno’s amazing nearly 70-year-career will be honored at the 2014 SAG awards with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Moreno, 81, is one of the only 11 artists and only Hispanic entertainer to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award. She’s been in countless films (West Side Story, for which she won the aforementioned Oscar) television shows (she’s currently on TV Land’s Happily Divorced) and on the stage. She also has been politically involved speaking out about issues like racism, education access, HIV/AIDS prevention and has served on many White House projects for the arts. Her autobiography Rita Moreno: A Memoir was released in March.

SAG-AFTRA Co-President, Roberta Reardon released a statement about Moreno receiving the award.

No one is more deserving of this honor than the fabulous and accomplished Rita Moreno, an iconic talent whose excellent work includes hit movies,
highly-rated television series, landmark public television programs and award-winning recordings. She is emblematic of the broad reach and diverse coverage
of our new, merged union. She is an inspiration in every effort, but never more so than with her civil rights activism, promoting equality and diversity
while ushering in a more representative depiction of the American scene on screen.

Moreno will received the annual award at the SAG Awards on January 18, 2014 which will air on both TNT and TBS.
