In 2008, adventurer Amanda Lindhout was kidnapped by Somali ransom-seekers and held and tortured for 460 days. During that time, she converted to Islam for survival, received “wife lessons,” was repeatedly raped, and managed one failed escape. With Sara Corbett, Lindhout wrote about her harrowing fifteen months in captivity in the 2013 bestseller A House in the Sky.
After a bidding war, Rooney Mara in partnership with Megan Ellison’s Annapurna snagged the book and will adapt Lindhout’s it for the big screen. Mara will star and also produce the film. The Oscar-nominated actress and the multiple-Oscar-nominated producer last worked together on 2013’s Her.
