Roseanne Liang’s Chloë Grace Moretz-Starrer “Shadow in the Cloud” Secures Distribution

"Shadow in the Cloud"

“Shadow in the Cloud” will be soaring into theaters next year. A press release announced that Vertical Entertainment and Redbox Entertainment snagged North American rights to the campy thriller, which is set 20,000 feet in the sky.

Directed by Roseanne Liang, “Shadow in the Cloud” sees Chloë Grace Moretz playing Maude Garrett, a WWII pilot assigned to protect a top-secret package aboard a B-17 Flying Fortress with an all-male crew. Maude isn’t the only unexpected passenger on the flight — she discovers an evil presence determined to wreak havoc and amass a body count.

“’Shadow in the Cloud’ is a captivating film with mesmerizing visual effects. Roseanne Liang’s distinct vision and Chloë Grace Moretz’s knock out performance are guaranteed to bring audiences to the edge of their seats,” said Peter Jarowey, CEO of Vertical Entertainment, and Galen Smith, CEO of Redbox, in a joint statement. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with the amazing female-led filmmaking team and Endeavor Content to bring this film to North American audiences next year.”

Liang added, “I’m over the moon, on cloud nine with a song in my heart and a smile on my face. I couldn’t be more excited to partner with the teams at Vertical Entertainment and Redbox Entertainment to bring our film to North American screens. This project has weathered more than its fair share of challenges, but its success is due to the army of artists and technicians who poured their love and faith into 83 minutes of heart, fun, and engaging spectacle. I can’t wait for everyone to experience Flight Officer Garrett’s ascension.”

A theatrical release is being planned for the summer of 2021.

“I think different people will take different things from the film. If they leave the film feeling like they’ve been on a thrill ride, brilliant. If they leave the film wanting to know more about the history, amazing,” Liang told us ahead of “Shadow in the Cloud’s” world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. “For me, the film makes me think about people’s capacity for strength and courage in the face of adversity — not in a cheesy way, but in an imperfect way. I think all humans — especially in these times — are dealing with varying degrees of adversity every day. Sometimes the adversity is huge, sometimes it’s a series of small stings that adds up to a systemic adversity. How we deal, adapt, survive, and maybe evolve in these circumstances is fascinating to me.”

Liang’s credits include the 2011 feature “My Wedding and Other Secrets” and the 2017 short “Do No Harm.”

“Greta,” “Suspiria,” and “The Miseducation of Cameron Post” are among Moretz’s recent credits.
