Three weeks after their debuts at the Toronto International Film Festival, two women-centric, women-directed films have found distribution.
Writer-director Ruba Nadda’s October Gale has been picked up by IFC. The thriller stars Patricia Clarkson as a doctor who invites an injured man (Scott Speedman) into her remote beach cottage — with his would-be assassin (Tim Roth) close behind. Nadda and Clarkson previously worked together on Cairo Time.
There’s only hurt pride in Liv Ullmann’s Miss Julie, an adaptaion of August Strindberg’s play about the games of sexual dominance between a 19th-century noblewoman and a servant. Miss Julie (Jessica Chastain) starts an affair with her father’s valet Jean (Colin Farrell), who is engaged to another servant (Samantha Morton). The film will be released in December by Wrekin Hill.
