Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer are re-teaming for a psychological horror pic. “The Fits” collaborators are currently in production on A24’s “God’s Creatures,” which marks their directing debut as a duo. Deadline broke the news.
Set in a “rain-swept Irish fishing village,” “God’s Creature” is a portrait of a mother (Emma Watson) “who lies to protect her son and the devastating impact that choice has on her community, her family, and herself.”
Holmer wrote and directed “The Fits,” and Davis edited the Venice Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival title. She’s also credited for its story alongside Holmer. The coming-of-age story about an 11-year-old dancer received multiple noms from the Film Independent Spirit Awards and Gotham Awards. Holmer won the Someone to Watch Award at the former.
A two-time Oscar nominee, Watson landed nods for “Hilary and Jackie” and “Breaking the Waves.” She received an Emmy nomination in 2019 for “Chernobyl.”
“Trust your gut,” Holmer urged when asked what advice she’d give other women directors. “Be generous. Make gratitude a daily practice.”
