Husband-and-wife team Salim and Mara Brock Akil have signed a multi-year deal with Warner Bros. TV.
The Akils’ partnership with the studio will take effect in May 2016, upon which Brock Akil will go from showrunning to executive consulting on “Being Mary Jane,” the critically acclaimed series she created. Starring Gabrielle Union, “Being Mary Jane” is BET’s #1 show and the cable network’s first foray into hour-long scripted fare.
A new showrunner for “Mary Jane” has yet to be named.
Brock Akil also created “The Game” on BET and “Girlfriends” on UPN/CW. She also directed the features “Sparkle” and “Jumping the Broom.”
