The White House will bestow National Medals of Arts to actresses Sally Field and Miriam Colón, singer Meredith Monk, visual artist Ann Hamilton and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, among others.
The National Medals of Arts are the U.S. government’s highest honor for artists. Recipients have been deemed “deserving of special recognition by reason of their outstanding contributions to the excellence, growth, support and availability of the arts in the United States.” President Obama will present each honoree with a medal during an awards ceremony on September 10.
