Sally Field to Take on Mary Todd Lincoln in Spielberg Biopic

Looks like Sally Field will have an opportunity for a third Oscar if this movie turns out as good as it sounds. Field takes on the female lead of Mary Todd Lincoln In Steven Spielberg’s biopic of Abraham Lincoln which is based on the book Team of Rivals by Pulitzer Prize winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin. It also doesn’t hurt that the script is by playwright Tony Kushner who also wrote Munich.

Field who is the heart and soul of ABC’s Brothers and Sisters is 11 years older than her leading man, Daniel Day Lewis. Mary Todd Lincoln was actually 8 years younger than the president.

When is the last time we saw a woman lead older than her male counterpart? This is great news aside from the fact it will be great to see Field on the big screen again in a substantive role.
