Sarah Jessica Parker’s Company Developing ‘The Fever’ for MTV

Fresh off the news that Sarah Jessica Parker will produce and star in a new comedy from HBO comes word that the former “Sex and the City” star’s production company, Pretty Matches Productions, will be working with author Megan Abbott to develop a series for MTV based on her bestselling novel “The Fever.”

“The Fever” — which was ranked among the best books of the year by NPR, the Village Voice, and a host of other outlets — focuses on a group of teen girls who develop a strange fever with seizure-like symptoms. Panic and hysteria spread at the prospect of an outbreak, and secrets begin to surface that could jeopardize friendships and families.

Abbott is very involved in the development process with Pretty Matches Productions and producer Karen Rosenfelt (“The Devil Wears Prada,” “Twilight”) and will write the pilot episode.

“We are thrilled to be working with Megan Abbott, one of the most exciting voices working in literature today,” said Parker and Pretty Matches Productions in a statement. “A master of suspense, Megan’s drama is a searing portrait of the female adolescent psyche that is on haunting display in her gripping novel, ‘The Fever.’”

“The Fever” seems intriguing and addictive, and we’re very much looking forward to seeing this pilot, especially because the plot summary sounds slightly reminiscent of Carol Morley’s “The Falling,” which we loved.
