Sarah Michelle Gellar, Desiree Akhavan, & Elisabeth Holm Team Up for Amazon Comedy Pilot “Hot Pink”

Sarah Michelle Gellar is returning to the small screen. The “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” alumna will show off her comedic chops in “Hot Pink,” a YA comedy that’s been ordered to pilot at Amazon. Variety confirmed the news.

Loosely inspired by Elana K. Arnold’s 2017 book “What Girls Are Made Of,” “Hot Pink” tells the story of Nina Faye, who was “raised to believe that there is no such thing as unconditional love, meaning she will do anything for her boyfriend to prove her worthiness. But when he breaks up with her, Nina is lost and sets out to find out what the conditions of love really are,” the source teases.

Elisabeth Holm, best known for collaborating with Gillian Robespierre and Jenny Slate on “Obvious Child,” “Landline,” and Slate’s comedy special, “Stage Fright,” created “Hot Pink” and is among the project’s exec producers. Desiree Akhavan, whose directing credits include “The Miseducation of Cameron Post” and “Appropriate Behavior,” will helm the pilot.

Soapy CW thriller “Ringer” marked Gellar’s first starring role on TV since her iconic turn as a teen who took on vampires and demons in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” The show ran from 2011-2012. She followed it up with “The Crazy Ones,” a CBS sitcom that co-starred Robin Williams and aired from 2013-2014. “The Grudge,” “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” and “Scooby-Doo” are among Gellar’s big screen credits.

Other Amazon projects on our radar include Jurnee Smollett-starrer “Fuel,” an action pic about a wheel woman, and a series reboot of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Donald Glover.
