Hulu viewers may soon get to explore a world in which Hillary Rodham never married Bill Clinton. “The Affair” co-creator Sarah Treem is writing and executive producing a drama series adaptation of Curtis Sittenfeld’s “Rodham” for the streamer. The project is now in the development stage, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
Published in May, the best-selling “Rodham” “imagines an alternative history where Hillary Rodham never marries Bill Clinton and asks what would have happened to her life and our country, if she had made a different choice,” the source details. “A modern parable about choices, feminism, and why this country has such a complicated relationship to women in power, ‘Rodham’ tells the story of an ambitious young woman, developing her extraordinary mind in the latter part of the 20th century, moving from idealism to cynicism and all the way back again.”
The “Rodham” adaptation hails from Fox 21 Television Studios, and marks Treem’s first project under her deal with the studio. Sittenfeld is also among the exec producers.
Hulu previously focused on the real Clinton with this year’s “Hillary,” a docuseries from Nanette Burstein.
“The Affair,” the high-concept relationship drama Treem created with Hagai Levi, ended last year after five seasons on Showtime. Next, Treem is working on a Hedy Lamarr limited series starring Gal Gadot. The project has moved from Showtime to Apple, where it has received an eight-episode series order. “In Treatment,” “House of Cards,” and “How to Make It in America” are among Treem’s other credits.
Sittenfeld’s other works include novels “Prep,” “American Wife,” and “Eligible.”
