Think women don’t bring in money at the box office? Think again. As TheWrap reports, Scarlett Johansson has vaulted onto the list of the 10 top-grossing actors of all time. The list was created by Box Office Mojo, which combined the domestic box office revenue of an actor’s entire filmography.
Johansson clocks in at number 10 on the list, with her films earning a total of $3.3 billion over the course of her career.
She’s the only woman in the top 10. The next, Cameron Diaz, appears at number 19. At 31, she’s also the youngest person to appear on the list. In fact, she’s at least 20 years younger than everyone else to make the top 10.
“It is staggering when you take into account how young she is,” Rotten Tomatoes senior editor Grae Drake told TheWrap. “Her films stand the biggest chance to be nominated for Oscars in both visual effects and best picture categories in the same year,” she said, adding that Johansson has appeared in 20 films that have scored “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes.
TheWrap conceded that it’s hard to know if Johansson was the first woman to crack the top 10 since Box Office Mojo neglected to share year-by-year stats.
So now that we know how much money Johansson can pull in at the box office, how about that Black Widow movie?
