Shamim Sarif’s “Despite the Falling Snow” Gets U.S. Distribution

“Despite The Falling Snow

Shamim Sarif’s Cold War thriller “Despite The Falling Snowhas been picked up by ET Pictures for a U.S. release, Screen Daily reports.

The film is described as a “romance-thriller about a female spy who steals secrets from an idealistic politician but then falls in love with him with tragic consequences.” Rebecca Furguson stars as the lead, Katya.

As we previously reported, Katya’s target is Soviet politician Alexander Ivanov (Sam Reid, “Belle”). In an effort to gain his trust, she begins an affair with him, and despite the false pretenses of their relationship, things begin to feel very real for Katya. “You need to be careful,” she’s warned. “You start off playing a role, and suddenly it doesn’t feel like acting to people.”

Ferguson has had a busy year with roles in “Florence Foster Jenkins” and the upcoming adaptation of the bestselling novel “The Girl on the Train.”

Sarif adapted the film from her own novel of the same name. It marks her fourth directorial feature. No word yet on a release date.
