Sharon Choi has been a staple on the awards circuit in recent months, taking the stage to accept award after award, most notably at Sunday’s Oscars. Choi has been serving as “Parasite” director and co-writer Bong Joon-ho’s interpreter, and it seems that the experience is serving as inspiration for a project of her own. According to TheWrap’s Steve Pond, the aspiring filmmaker plans to start making a movie “about awards season.”
“You already know [Choi is] a filmmaker. And she studied film in the university, yeah, so I’m so curious about her script,” Bong said backstage at the Oscars. “Actually, she’s writing some feature-length script, I’m so curious about it.”
Choi stood alongside Bong as he scored Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature, Cannes’ Palme d’Or, and a Golden Globe for Foreign Language Film, among many other honors.
“Once you overcome the one-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films,” Bong told the crowd in Korean, as interpreted by Choi, at the Globes.
Bong has credited Choi with making “Parasite’s” press and awards campaign a “smooth journey,” and emphasized that she’s a “great filmmaker.” Check out a clip of the duo discussing Choi’s filmmaking on the Oscar red carpet below.
