Sharon Horgan to Star in and Produce “Women on the Verge” Series

“Catastrophe” co-creator and star Sharon Horgan is working on yet another TV project. The busy multi-hyphenate is set to star in and produce six-part series “Women on the Verge” for UKTV and Irish network RTÉ, Deadline reports.

Based on Lorna Martin’s best-selling 2008 book “Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” the series is set in Dublin and offers a “darkly comic” take on three career-focused 30-somethings. Each “share the same nagging concern – that whilst their friends and colleagues seem to be increasingly in control of their lives, their own lives seem to be moving in the opposite direction,” the source hints.

Kerry Condon (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”), Nina Sosanya (“Marcella”), and Eileen Walsh (“Patrick Melrose”) will play the trio at the center of the series. Horgan’s character is a psychotherapist.

“Women on the Verge” is being co-produced by Horgan and Clelia Mountford’s Merman and Tessa Ross and Juliette Howell’s House Productions. Horgan and Martin have been collaborating on the project since 2011.

“We were huge fans of Lorna’s book ‘Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,’ that told her personal story so compellingly and honestly,” said Horgan and Mountford. “We are very happy that we’re finally getting to bring her story to the screen and destroy whatever privacy she has left.”

The “darkly comic” series will air on UKTV’s W Channel.

Pete Thornton, Senior Commissioning Editor for UKTV, added, “The chance to bring this project to life for W represents an exciting opportunity for us as a broadcaster, and for W as a channel. We’re delighted to be working with the talented and much in demand teams at Merman and House Productions alongside a brilliant cast – led by the extraordinary Kerry Condon – to delve into the chaotic, sometimes tragic but always gripping lives of Laura, Katie, and Alison.”

Besides her Emmy-nominated work on “Catastrophe,” which will be returning for a fourth season on Channel 4 and Amazon with a premiere date TBA, Horgan is perhaps best known for creating HBO’s Sarah Jessica Parker-starrer “Divorce” and acting in and co-creating “Motherland,” a BBC series that recently premiered stateside thanks to Sundance Now, AMC Networks’ premium video streaming service. Her other TV credits include “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret,” “Pulling,” and “BoJack Horseman.”

“I love it when women come up to me and tell me they love a show,” Horgan has said. “That feels the pinnacle of [success]. The usual thing is: ‘That’s my life.’”

Horgan signed an overall deal with Amazon Studios in January. She was last seen on the big screen in box office hit “Game Night.”
