Sharon Stone to Receive Golden Icon Award at Zurich Film Festival

Stone: ZFF

Sharon Stone is set to receive Zurich Film Festival’s (ZFF) highest accolade. A press release announced that the Academy Award-nominated actress been named as the recipient of the fest’s Golden Icon Award, and she’ll accept the honor in person on September 25. The award ceremony will be followed by a screening of “Casino,” the thriller that earned her an Oscar nod in 1996. Stone will also hold a ZFF Masters, an event that will see her sharing insights into her creative process and career.

“Sharon Stone is a true icon of the seventh art,” said Christian Jungen, Artistic Director of ZFF. “She is a woman that Hitchcock would have loved. Her distinguishing qualities include an irresistible charm, a great human depth, the talent to play a whole range of roles, and the ability to captivate an audience like no other. At a time when the film business was dominated by men, she stood her ground to fight against sexism and in doing so became a major role model for many women in the film business.”

Stone added, “It is an honor to engage with the global community and celebrate the profound depth of our art. I am thrilled to be recognized in this capacity.”

The press release notes that Stone the fifth actress in a row to receive the Golden Icon Award. Juliette Binoche took home the honor last year.

“Here Today” and “Ratched” are among Stone’s most recent credits. She’s best known for films including “The Quick and the Dead” and “Basic Instinct.”

Now celebrating its 17th edition, ZFF will announce its 2021 program September 9. The fest takes place September 23-October 3. Women directors landed all three main prizes at ZFF last year: Fernanda Valadez won the Golden Eye for best feature film for “Identifying Features” (“Sin Señas Particulares”), Garrett Bradley’s “Time” scored the Golden Eye for best documentary, and Evi Romen’s “Why Not You” (“Hochwald”) received the Golden Eye for best film in the German-speaking competition.
