Divorced women may be TV’s next big trend.
Lifetime has renewed Marti Noxon’s “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce,” starring Lisa Edelstein, while Sarah Jessica Parker will make her small-screen return in a HBO comedy simply titled “Divorce.”
Now two more television major leaguers are embracing life after marriage. Producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers are developing a divorce comedy for ABC with “Trophy Wife” creators Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins.
“Splitsville” will focus on the residents of a suburban cul-de-sac who join forces to raise their kids and support one another after a series of divorces in the neighborhood.
Halpern and Haskins will write the pilot and EP with Rhimes and Beers.
Meanwhile, the power duo’s Shondaland will have on its fall schedule the Thursday night block of “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal,” “How to Get Away With Murder” and new series “The Catch,” starring Mireille Enos.
