Another teenage girl is set to embrace her destiny and slay in a supernatural drama series. Deadline reports that The CW is developing “Slay,” a genre project that’s receiving comparisons to “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
“Slay” tells the story of Carson Jones. Described as a “a bold, witty teenager with afro puffs, leather boots, ’70s cool and – thanks to her mother’s ancient African bloodline – supernatural gifts,” Carson must use those powers “to protect Virginia’s Historic Triangle (one of the most haunted areas in the country) from the forces of darkness.”
Julian Johnson (“Prodigal Son”) is penning the script.
Oscar and four-time Emmy winner Regina King is involved with the project. She and Reina King, her sister, executive produce via their company Royal Ties Prods.
The source doesn’t weigh in on who will helm the pilot should “Slay” move forward, but it seems possible that King, whose feature directorial debut, “One Night in Miami,” is on the festival circuit, would do the honors. Her small screen directing credits include “Insecure,” “This Is Us,” and “Scandal.”
