Sofia Vergara Joins the Cast of Whitney Cummings’ Directorial Debut

Sofia Vergara in “Hot Pursuit”: Warner Bros.

Sofia Vergara will star in “The Female Brain,” comedian Whitney Cummings’ directorial debut. Comingsoon.net has reported that the ensemble cast for the film will include the Emmy-nominated “Modern Family” star, Cummings, James Marsden (“X-Men” franchise, “30 Rock”), Cecily Strong (“SNL”), Xosha Roquemore (“The Mindy Project”), and Lucy Punch (“Bad Teacher”).

“The Female Brain” is an adaptation of a 2006 nonfiction book of the same name by neuropsychiatrist Louann Brizendine. Cummings wrote the script with Neal Brennan (“Chappelle’s Show”).

According to an official synopsis, the film will “comically detail the inner workings and complex power of brain chemistry among couples at different stages in their relationships… whether it’s finding the right romantic balance; parenting; overcoming commitment issues; expressing emotion; or simply admitting to being useless around the house.”

“The Female Brain” is financed by Black Bicycle Entertainment and it’s being produced by Erika Olde and Night and Day Pictures’ Michael Roiff.

Cummings created and starred in NBC’s “Whitney.” She co-created “2 Broke Girls.” The sixth season of the comedy, starring Kat Dennings (“Thor” franchise) and Beth Behrs (“Hello, My Name is Doris”), premieres October 10 on NBC.
