Sony Pictures Television has taken a minority stake in “Suffragette” producer Faye Ward’s new U.K. film and television production company, Fable Pictures.
Fable will specialize in high-end drama series. Sony Pictures Television will handle distribution around the globe.
The company is currently working on “Stan and Ollie,” a feature film starring Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly. The upcoming “Country Music,” co-written by Nicole Taylor (“The C Word”) features Karen Gillan (“Selfie”) playing a singer in Glasgow with ambitions to perform in Nashville.
Ward’s film and television credits include “The Crown,” “Jane Eyre” and “Dancing on the Edge.”
“Fable Pictures’ vision is to collaborate with strong writers and directors to tell stories that are ambitious, illuminating and entertaining across film and television,” said Ward, who left her position at indie U.K. production company Ruby Films to launch Fable. “This deal will enable us to focus on what we do best, and pour our energy into developing a number of new projects with talent we are incredibly excited about.”
Ward told Women and Hollywood exclusively, “We are looking forward to working with fantastic, talented people and telling surprising and meaningful stories for both film and TV.”
Andrea Wong, Sony Picture Television’s president of international production, commented, “Faye is one of the U.K.’s most promising and ambitious drama producers and we can’t wait to help her achieve her vision for Fable Pictures.”
