Sony Pictures TV Kicks Off Diverse Directors Program: Apply Now

Last year’s finalists worked on series including “The Get Down”: Myles Aronowitz/Netflix

Sony Pictures Television is accepting applications for its Diverse Directors Program, now in its third year. The program aims to offer opportunities to directors with diverse backgrounds.

Fifteen semi-finalists will be chosen. Deadline reports, “They will participate in the program’s intensive episodic directing workshop consisting of six evenings of discussion and instruction from working directors, production personnel and entertainment professionals. From those, approximately five finalists will be chosen and invited to shadow television directors on various hour and half-hour SPT scripted series. Last year’s program finalists worked on SPT series including ‘Dr. Ken,’ ‘Night Shift,’ ‘Powers,’ ‘The Goldbergs,’ ‘The Get Down,’ and ‘The Blacklist.’”

You can apply online and find more information here. The deadline to apply is July 11 or, as the program’s official site specifies, “the date at which the program receives a total of 450 applications, whichever occurs first.” So the sooner you apply, the better. There is no fee to apply. You’ll be asked to submit various materials, including a resume, bio, letters of recommendation, and a sample of your work.

The Diverse Directors Program runs from October 2016 through February 2017.
