Sophie Brooks to Direct Adaptation of “You Me Everything” For Lionsgate

Brooks: BUILD Series/YouTube

Sophie Brooks is shifting her gaze from Brooklyn to the French countryside. The filmmaker will follow up her feature debut, New York-set “The Boy Downstairs,” with an adaptation of Catherine Isaac’s bestseller “You Me Everything” for Lionsgate, Deadline confirms. Robert Nelson Jacobs (“Chocolat”) penned the script.

Set in the French countryside during a summer vacation, “You Me Everything” tells the story of “Jess and her ten-year-old son William, [who] set off to spend the summer in the sunlit hills of the Dordogne where Jess’ ex-boyfriend and William’s father, Adam, runs a beautiful hotel in a restored castle. Adam and William don’t know of each other’s existence so Jess will have to find a way to reunite them but she has a secret of her own that she can’t let anyone discover, especially her son,” the source summarizes.

Released this February, “The Boy Downstairs” stars “Girls” alumna Zosia Mamet as a woman who finds the perfect Brooklyn apartment — only to discover that her ex lives in the same building. The pic premiered at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival.

“I find that as a woman in film — and in life — you sometimes have to voice your opinion multiple times to get your point across. So do that,” Brooks told us. “Keep voicing your opinion until it’s really heard. And don’t give up on what’s truly important to you and your story. Also, hire nice and respectful people.”
