Marzieh Vafamehr the star of My Tehran for Sale which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2009 has received a sentence of 90 lashes and one year in jail for being in the film. She was sentenced Saturday and her lawyer is appealing the sentence.

Her character plays an actress whose work in banned and she has to go underground to express her art. She is also ostracized by her family and debates fleeing to Australia to have her freedom.

We need to start a petition to get this woman released. Anyone up for that? We also need to get in touch with the UN and the artistic community. Let’s spread the word that this is unacceptable.
