Looks like Sonequa Martin-Green has plenty more worlds and life forms to discover. CBS All Access has greenlit a third season of “Star Trek: Discovery,” The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
Set 10 years before the events of the original “Star Trek,” “Discovery” follows Science Specialist Michael Burnham (Martin-Green) and the crew of the USS Discovery as they embark on missions in space.
“Discovery” scribe Michelle Paradise has been promoted and will serve as co-showrunner for Season 3 alongside Alex Kurtzman. She previously worked on series such as “The Originals” and “Hart of Dixie.”
“Michelle joined us midway through season two and energized the room with her ferocious knowledge of ‘Trek,'” Kurtzman said. “Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive, and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the ‘Trek’ legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward. I’m proud to say Michelle and I are officially running ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ together.”
CBS All Access is developing a “Discovery” spinoff led by Michelle Yeoh.
No word on when to expect the third season of “Discovery” just yet.
“‘Star Trek’ has always been pictorial of diversity and inclusion and universality,” Martin-Green has said. “It’s one of the main reasons it’s so important to so many people to this day. So if you say you love the legacy of ‘Star Trek’ but you don’t love that, you’ve missed [the point].”
“The Walking Dead,” “Once Upon a Time,” and “The Good Wife” are among Martin-Green’s previous credits.
