Stella Meghie has lined up her next project. The “Everything, Everything” helmer will write and direct “The Photograph,” Variety reports. Universal Pictures acquired the original spec, described as a “generational story about love and family.”
Will Packer (“Girls Trip”) is signed on to produce via Will Packer Productions, and Meghie is among the project’s executive producers.
Amandla Stenberg-starrer “Everything, Everything” earned more than $61 million worldwide on a budget of $10 million. An adaptation of Nicole Yoon’s YA novel, the drama centers on an 18-year-old who has never been outside and dreams of seeing the ocean. Since she is allergic to everything, she can’t leave the house without becoming severely ill, but when she meets her new neighbor, she decides she needs more from life, sickness or no sickness.
Meghie’s first feature, “Jean of the Joneses,” earned her a screenwriting nod at the Independent Spirit Awards.
When we asked the writer-director her advice for other female filmmakers, she said, “Don’t care what people are thinking about you if you have to say no, or if you have to ask for something you need to do your job properly.
